‘Support was from the UK’s Toy Hearts who have moved away from a more bluegrassy sound, almost out-Hotclubbed Hot Club on their latest release and proved to be well suited to support Austin’s finest exponents of Western Swing and Gypsy Jazz. With similar influences, Sister’s Hannah (mandolin) and Sophia (guitar) were a delight, highly personable, and proved they have what it takes for some serious cross over potential without compromising their music.’ ‘Style and substance are admirable attributes for any band. But couple them with hard work and commitment and you're onto something good. The Toy Hearts have all the bases covered and Femme Fatale, recorded in Nashville, is a fine document of the Johnson family's winning formula.’

The Toy Hearts
One of our most outstanding gigs of 2010. These girls, Hannah and Sophia, and dad Stewart are a force to be reckoned with. The vocals, musicianship, and overall outstanding quality of their music was immense. Trust me! The Toy Hearts are one of the UK’s hottest acoustic acts right now, their style of music neatly placing them at the forefront of the resurgence of interest in folk and Americana music. 2010 saw this hard working band touring across the UK, Europe and the USA. The culmination of their work so far being the national release of their third album ‘Femme Fatale’ in September, which was recorded in Nashville TN earlier in the year. Fronted by sister’s Hannah (mandolin) and Sophia (guitar), accompanied by banjo/dobro, bass and fiddle, the band draws upon the genres of Bluegrass, Western Swing and Gypsy Jazz for inspiration. By combining original songwriting, sweet sister harmonies, hard driving rhythms and energetic performances, The Toy Hearts have developed a truly unique sound that leaves their audiences breathless and ready for more!
The vocals are pure and the musicianship is top-class... This group is going from strength to strength and I would recommend this album to all bluegrass fans'. 'If bluegrass is not your thing, and this reviewer would be the first to hold his hand up, then leave your pre conceptions at the door and embrace this album for what it is - a great collection of songs by a great band (from Birmingham).' 'This is an outstanding album from a British group and undoubtedly one of the best I’ve heard this year and is highly recommended.' 'The overall sound is excellent, Hannah's vocal's quite superb and Sophia's guitar playing stunning. The album has a tremendous vitality about it and the elements of western swing that creep in here and there only add to the variety of a band who are as good to look at as they are to listen to.'
